An aristocratic residence owned by the Marquises Manca di Villahermosa, it is located in Sarroch, in the vicinity of Cagliari, in a locality called “Orri,” on the western shore of the Golfo degli Angeli, at Km 16.1of the S.S. 195 “Sulcitana.”
The current layout dates back to the setting given to the Villa by Stefano Manca, Marquis of Villahermosa and S. Croce, during the years of the Savoy Court’s stay in Cagliari (1799-1814), during the forced exile following the French occupation of Piedmont.
The only extant “royal villa” in Sardinia, located in a pleasant position between the hills and the sea, surrounded by a park rich in tree species and tall trees, the upstream facade connects to the Italian garden by a pincer staircase, adorned with marble busts in the neoclassical style, while the elevation towards the sea fits harmoniously into the natural landscape through a shady portico surmounted by a sunny terrace adorned with a Savoy coat of arms; in the spacious courtyard, monumental specimens of Ficus Magnoliodes with their typical aerial roots.
Famous for having hosted illustrious historical figures, including Charles Felix of Savoy with his consort Maria Christina of Bourbon, it holds precious memories, including documentary ones, and distinguished historical and artistic treasures relating to the period of Savoy’s exile on the island and still retains much of its original furnishings. Of notable interest for its connection with the feast of Saint Ephisius is the Chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Carmel.
The Villa with its collections, together with its outbuildings and park, has been the subject of notification by the Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Heritage, which recognizes its important historical and architectural value as a monumental complex.
